The following apply to proof coil chain, high test chain and transport chain charts on this page:

Minimum elongation: 15%

Packaging: drums, 1/2 drums, pails and reels.
(Pails need to be requested for Transport Chain.)

Test Certificate: Each chain is proof tested; proof test certificates are available upon request.

Do not use for overhead lifting.
The only grade of chain designed for overhead lifting is
Alloy Chain (Grade 80)

Common uses:

  • Proof Coil - tow/log chains, cargo lashing, guard rails, tail gates and stump pulling.
  • High Test - provides greater strength-to-weight ratio, used for load binding, towing.
  • Transport Chain - provides highest strength-to-weight ratio, a carbon steel heat treated chain, meets stringent Department of Transportation requirements while allowing the use of a lighter weight chain.

Finish:

  • Proof Coil - Self colored, electrogalvanized, hot galvanized. Bright polished and epoxy coating of various colors also available.
  • High Test - Self colored and hot galvanized. Bright polished and electrogalvanized also available.
  • Transport Chain - Electro galvanized yellow dichromate.

Always follow safe work practices and basic cautions in use of load binders.  [Top]
  • Do not operate the load binder while you or anyone is on the load.
  • When applying the binder, always position the load binder so the handle is tightened in a downward manner.
  • Load binders are designed to be tightened lo the approximate Work Load Limit by a substantial hand effort. Do not use a handle extension. Extensions can dangerously damage the binder system and result in serious injury.
  • The operator should at all times use the load binder from a firm standing position that will insure protection for himself as well as those in the immediate vicinity.
  • Load binders are a form of machinery and require periodic inspection and maintenance. Inspect for deformation, cracks, nicks or gouges before use. Replace if damaged.
  • Periodic lubrication will give optimum performance and reduce friction losses. Consult the U.S. Government Printing Office for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for additional important information.
  • In releasing lever type load binders, be sure no one is positioned to be struck by the handle which may release suddenly.
  • If there is a possibility for a relaxation of the chain load when the binder is in the locked or "over center" position, the handle should be secured to the binding chain by securely wrapping the loose end of the chain around the handle. Whenever possible secure the handle down with a positive retaining method.
